My introduction to the world of blockchain, particularly cryptocurrencies, was somewhat unconventional. I knew a person who in college purchased a set of "novelty" IDs, and the payment had to be made in Bitcoin. At the time, Bitcoin was an almost unheard of concept worth only a fraction of what it is today.
Well, this person partied on through college and graduated and forgot about the extra Bitcoin they had laying around. Fast-forward years later after graduation when Bitcoin was suddenly worth 17K each (still far less than today). Luckily for this individual they were able to sell their Bitcoin, pay off all their student loans and live happily every after. (Until they check the prices today, see its worth triple that now, and die a little bit on the inside. It's still better than the guy that sold his 10 Bitcoin for 2 pizzas though)
Regardless... I heard this story and I was fascinated.
When I started looking into it, it was still very new and speculative. Everyone was saying the craze wouldn't last, only criminals use it, I shouldn't invest. And so I waited...
And then one day I got bored with the stock market and decided to take a leap of faith. It's been a rocky road, but there is no looking back for me now.
You don't have to be like me, and put all your money at risk on a digital currency that could literally cease to exist at any moment. But you do have to begin to understand the world of Blockchain and DeFI (decentralized finance) because like it or not... it is becoming a part of our world.
With major corporations and businesses like Facebook, JP Morgan, Gucci, all beginning to finally admit the legitimacy of the Metaverse and all things blockchain, it is more likely it will start to take a bigger role in our daily lives. From how we interact with brands, to how we make payments, to maybe someday even how we see our friends. In the very least it can't hurt to learn.
My suggestion for beginning to dip your toes into this world (virtually that is) it to subscribe to these website's newsletters:
They have been good at keeping me in the loop, without drowning me in information and random propaganda from influencers trying to pump their latest project.
I'll be writing more posts a related to this amongst the other finance articles, so you can also feel free to check back here if you want to go a little more in depth.
